Due to the human‑rights issue that significantly impacted my ability to work over the past year, my employer’s short‑term disability program is transitioning me to LTD effective October 1. Given that I have multiple disabilities and already qualify for the DTC, should I proactively apply for CPP‑D?
Yes, because while a CPP-D approval isn’t binding towards LTD, it carries significant weight as it’s an independent adjudication from a government agency (Service Canada) and the threshold of disability is much higher. E.g. if approved, the government is deeming you to be unable to do any occupation irrespective of things like commensurate income, education, background etc.
If you’re denied for LTD at Any occupation and you’re approved for CPP-D, your lawyer will love you.
