CPP Disability Wait-Time - What's Your Experience 2024

Hello, everyone! I’m Maddy, the Content Manager at Resolute Legal. Recently, we’ve had several people reach out to let us know their wait times for CPP disability approvals have far exceeded the four-month standard. If you could share your experiences below, it would be much appreciated, as we’re looking to update this article. Thank you!

Hi, I am presently at 135 days, They would not do any follow up until at least 120 days had passed, once you reach 120 days they will then send a reminder email to whomever it goes to, was then advised to wait another 15 business days before calling back.

My case is very basic, not complex, not a lot of medical information was needed to support my claim so don’t know why it’s taking so long.

I’m not aware of any other service whereby a 4 month wait is considered the norm and even then there’s no guarantee..

Thank you for sharing! I understand the frustration with the extended wait, especially given your case’s simplicity. Hopefully it gets approved soon.

Hi

I believe it was between 130-140 days for a decision but this was about 4and a half months ago.

I applied for CPPD at the end of January,2024,still waiting for a decision.I was told that they were checking my contributions in Serbia and that I might qualify cause of Social agreement that Serbia has with Canada.I had a call from adjudicator and she requested some additional documents.

This Service Canada site may be helpful in understanding the reciprocity agreement between Canada and Serbia since 2014.

https://catalogue.servicecanada.gc.ca/content/EForms/en/Detail.html?Form=ISP5053-SRB

It might be reasonable to expect a longer processing time with the necessary requirements to validate the details with a different country, imo.

Thank you.I know,I have checked all those links before.I was told that my case should be completed by February 5th.I was expecting it to take a longer time.

I am currently at 125 days since Service Canada says they recieved my compete CPPD application (my part, doctors part, and info from insurer).

Apologies if this clearly stated, I am having some challenge determining the timeline for previous update year…

Is 2021 of interest?

And, are you interested in separating direct vs. Request for review approvals vs. Tribunal hearing approvals vs. Appeal approvals vs. Whatever other options for hearing CPPD claim exist?

Thank you

I want to be able to give you an accurate answer however the answer I’ve been given is back logged for a decision to made in my CPP Disability case anyway.

January 25 2024 I received a decision and I requested a reconsideration. May 25 I received a letter stating Service Canada received my request and I don’t need to send any more documents, however if I do have any new information to send that information ASAP.

Since that time I have submitted many medical documents and other documents of evidence periodically defending myself. In that time all the documents were accepted, including the most recent & last updated medical report Oct 3.

I’ve been calling for updates only a few months ago every couple of weeks to only hear back logged is probably why no decision has been made, all though the medical adjudicator has my file. Last document is still active whether that means solely that document or the entire file is a mystery because the document prior to that was still active when I called to ask what the time frame looked like at that time.

Being clear when I’ve called I have been told 130 days. I tell them my file is with adjudicator to be reconsidered they then tell me they had 60 days or something from when the adjudicator had it to make a decision. Then it went to 15 days. Then I was told it was going to be expedited seeing the decision to be made had gone over the timeframe. I called back accordingly asked about the time frame as a request for my decision to be expedited but there was no record of it.

Since the Oct. 3rd medical report was submitted I called last week and requested to have the medical report to reviewed as soon possible and gave my reasons to have it escalated. Agent said she put a request in and that time frame usually takes 15 days.

That being said I have no idea how long it takes for a new decision to made.

All in all the original application was received March 28 2023 and received that decision January 25 2024.

As an update to my prior response,After the initial 120 days I waited the required further 21 days, again with no response, phoned again on Tuesday, they said I will receive a response in 2 business days as they have sent an Urgent request due to the time waiting, well that 2 days has come and gone, I’ll be phoning again tomorrow. I have now been waiting 145 days, If it takes this long getting a response for a very basic medical claim with not a lot of medical records to be reviewed I’d hate to be waiting for a complex case to be adjudicated !

I have been put through a ringer and its been almost a year It started with my doctor doing everything sending all the supporting documents , and she actually went over and beyond and called them after 3 months and asked what else was needed they said they cannot talk to her but then tell me they have not heard from the doctor and gave me 21 days but then send a letter 2 days later denying it…Then talk to a manager that confirmed mishandled file and re appeal and have the doctor send the letter confirming prolong and severe and not able to work…Unfortunate the second judicator did not care about any doctors notes Her words to me was I am not taking the doctors word for it , and when I asked her what she needed and why as this was a licensed doctor what she meant she hung up on me She then denied it now I have a lawyer and its gone to the tribunal and I cn say one thing surviving only one cpp suvivor beneift and in rent arrears and in terrible state feel so drained and worse ever 1 year this December is not unimaginable but hop e soon they will approve it especially when the stuff was done to me …

I am going through the same as you, I applied for CPPD in July. I did receive 1 phone call saying they received everything that was required and my file is being sent to medical team. They also told me to keep checking my CRA account and i can see how the process is going in there. I went to CRA and still there is nothing there, I am at a loss

My status changed to complete Nov 22 but there has been no update or change since then. It says to wait for a letter but there is no mail with the Canada Post strike and nothing in my online mailbox. Nothing on my payments page has changed. I don’t know whether to assume I have been denied and appeal or continue to wait. I am concerned about my appeal window closing while I wait.

Hi. I’d login into Service Canada and then use the link under the contact us section to have someone from Service Canada call you back within 2 business days (they called me back within 15 mins to give me a general status update and to set up a secondary call with the medical adjutocator on my file).

The person who calls you back should be able to say if you were approved or declined.

Thank you, I’ll try that

Hey did you hear anything back. I’m in the same situation. Status says complete and no payment info has changed. Was told to wait for the letter.

They were able to tell me over the phone it had been approved, first payment went in a couple days later but my account still doesn’t show the payment so guess they’re a little behind updating?

I Yes I phoned and they let me know I was approved and how much the payment is. It went into my bank account a couple days later. Give them a call. Good luck.

Thanks for the response, glad you were approved! So your banking still says nothing under payment information or benefits estimate? Interesting! I guess I maybe still have a chance!
