Loosing my specialist

Hello friends. I started my LTD this February for the mental health problem. Being with the psychiatrist since my teens on and off. Had a suicidal attempt long time ago, diagnosed with the depression and anxiety. I am 62 now. Long story short, my psychiatrist ( I had her for the last 3 years and she is the best) informed me that she is taking leave and I need to find a new doctor. Of course my anxiety just skyrocketed. My family doctor is not worrying about it and said she will send a referrals as soon as my specialist forwards her statement. Should I be worried about my LTD? What if I don’t find a specialist and will be under my GP care? I have psychotherapy every 2 weeks in addition to my meds. Also my GP diagnosted me with the fibromyalgia recently and send me to another one to prescribe a CBD oil for the pain. DO you know any good mental health doctors in GTA? Thanks

Hi Lottie,

It is nice to meet you. That must be really stressful. I can reassure you that this is a very normal thing. Specialists retire all the time. As long as you are under the care of a GP and she has referred you to a new psychiatrist then there is nothing you need to worry about. And let me say, I am glad you were not successful with your suicide attempt and are still here with us, so I was able to meet you. I can’t imagine having anxiety, depression and fibromyalgia on top of it. Hang in there and if your LTD company does dare try and give you any trouble then let us know and we will help you through it as a community!

Take care,
Adam

Hi, I am a bit jealous that you were able to have the same doc for your entire adult life! I think you don’t need to be anxious about your LTD continuing. At age 62, so close to age 65, they will be unlikely to try to cut you off. Both because it’s less likely you would be able to return to work at that age and because they’re only looking at a couple of years instead of a couple of decades of payments so it would cost them more to fight you about it than to just pay your LTD.

Thank you guys for your warm welcome. I guess I was misleading. I had specialist on and off my entire adult life and the current one for the last 3 years only. English is my second language

3 years is still a good run with the same professional!
