For me, after i was approved CPP reached out to ask if i would give permission for them to send the entire amount of retroactive pay backing to the first day that my disability was noted by doctors, to the insurance company. At the same time my insurance company sent me a letter stating i must sign off on them retrieving the full entire amount of pay, so that they could caculate their portion and would then send me my portion as they caculated it to be. If i did no sign the letter i would not receive my regular disability benefits. So if u havent yet signed off on the insurance company taking their cut first then u still have a bit of a wait before youll receive the remainder of what is left. U ahould also receive a letter from CPP telling u how much money youll be getting a month from them. After they send they have sent a check to the insurer u will also receive a statement from CPP stating the full amount and dates retroactively paid out for. My insurer had kicked me off disability for 5 months while i fought to get back on due to a new disability. And when i was approved by CPP the back dated me for those months and the insurance company took 5months worth of disabilty pay that they never actually paid me, almonst 12,000$ my union was trying to get it back for me but the insurer kept avoiding them and changing the subject everytime it was brought up in email exchanges until my union just got tired of it and told me to maybe just be quiet for a bit as i just got put back on disabilty and try not to cause waves right now and bring it up in 6minths. Nothing ever ended up happening. The insurer basically told me to kick rocks and kept the $12000 extra from CPP. But that was 9yrs ago…as u can see im still not over it. Lol
I refused to sign the irrevocable consent, had my monthly payment reduced by what they estimated my CPP-D should be, had my claim closed and appeal won/claim reinstated within 28 days. My appeal stated i had been approved up to the 24 month change of definition (the following month) as well as approved for benefit to continue PAST the 2 year COD point.
Shortly thereafter they started sending me emails with forms they wanted filled out as my post 2 yr was under review 2 after my appeal, i basically told them to forget it as my appeal was inclusive of the continuation of benefits past the 2 years.
They also tried to all excuses they could come up with to have me send the consent giving up my rights to my money, of which i also denied time and time again. I will do my own math thank you very much and send ONLY what i overpaid, and I will refer to my employemt contract stating they only are entitled to $0.925 for every dollar i receive.
I have told them that if they cannot give me a valid reason to complete their review questionnaire, or try to take a penny more than what is owed, I will happily see them in court.
Approved cpp July 31st, just received back pay this past week. When i have time to deal with them I will, but i have far more critical issues to deal with at current. Advised the adjuster should they choose to cut my benefit off again, that is there perogative and I would not be persuaded by their bullying attempts to make me comply It is in my best interests to look after me first.
So far they always come back seeing things my way and have backed off once again…until the next bs letter arrives that is…
Know your contract, do not let them bully you and hold them accountable to the very contract that they hope you chose not to read…
