After accepting a package for retirement, I got sick one month before my last my planned last day of work (April 30th). I submitted a short term disability claim which was denied. I appealed and provided medical supporting documents and results of multiple tests from my family doctor and 4 specialists at the last day of appeal at the end of May. I was approved in early June but the approval date was shortened to April 27th retroactively. Since I have finished working for my employer on April 30th and retired since then, there is no additional leave requested or needed. The case manager absolutely refused to explain why was this done retroactively.
The case manager and my employer already denied me the extended benefits I am entitled to under the exit package which include pension contributions for 6 months which will affect the pension amount I will be receiving from my defined pension plan and from CPP.
I am still going treatment by my doctors and have a surgery planned soon.
Can you advise if they can retroactively shorten the approval period to be a few days before my last day of work? if they can do that, can they, after approving my absence from work, ask for refund or any money/benefits received after they approved me receiving such benefits (e.g. severance package, last month of work pay, etc.)? how else may they be able to hurt me?
Please advise ASAP.
Thanks
