Why 2 years own occupation LTD

Why do a lot of insurance companies specify 2 years as the own occupation period?
Why not 1 or 3 years?
Do more people on LTD for 2 years, die?

There is no rationale beyond that is what is commonly sold. I expect it is based on medical or rehabilition literature that says 2 years is reasonable time for maximum medical recovery from most conditions, or something along those lines. There are longer and shorter periods — the own occupation periods are not always 2 years. If a company wanted more, the insurance company would sell it.
