What if you get sick on LTD?

What happens if you are on LTD for a psychological issue but then you get cancer and your psychological issue still hasn’t resolved anyways?

Now you have multiple conditions making you unable to work.

Does that affect LTD?

It should just make it much harder for the Insurer to cut you off from your monthly LTD benefits.

All LTD policies have ways of dealing with this situation.

The most common situation for group LTD policies is that new conditions will be included as long as there was continuous disability. If a person go back to work in the meantime when the new medical condition arises, then it can get complicated.

However, there can be exceptions to this depending on the wording of your policy. Some policies will treat new conditions as separate claims. And some policies will exclude certain illnesses or conditions, so you have to always look at this on a case-by-case basis.

You can always report to the insurer and they will tell you how they view it. If you disagree with their decision, you can get a legal consultation.
