I’m on WCB for a work injury, have had surgery but have been told I will have a permanent impairment. I was on CPP disability for the same shoulder previously and went back to work after the first surgery. I have been told I can return to Disability and receive WCB at the same time with a 50% clawback. My query is what happens if CPP back pays me to the start of the yr? What if I receive a PFI payment from WCB? Will CPP want money? Will WCB want to take back moneys paid for previous months? I’m hesitant to do anything because I’m afraid I’ll get screwed over by either WCB or CPP!
You will never have to pay money to CPP disability. However, if the CPP disability retroactive payment overlapps with past WCB income loss payments, then WCB is entitled to be paid back for an “overpayment”. In summary, yes the CPP disability retroactive payment can create an “overpayment” of WCB benefits that must be repaid to WCB. Keep WCB in the loop and give them a copy of the “Payment Explanation Statement” you receive from Service Canada when approved for CPP disability.
