Their doctor for evaluation

Thank you allyoops. You are an awesome person.

The IME is two hours long and they asked me to bring a list of my medications I am taking.

I am currently writing a letter to them asking for the information they are sending to their doc as you mentioned and any intake forms I have to fill out.

My psychologist is willing to see me the day before and the day after but she wants to know how she can help me the day after. I told her she can evaluate me to see if I still have the subjective illnesses. The IME doc will most likely say I am fine. My psychologist is clueless as to how the system works.

I am so frustrated with this whole process. My doctors/psychologists are clueless and useless. They cannot agree to one diagnosis. They contradict themselves in their own notes. One day they tell me I am suffering from illness A then the next week they say Illness B. They say they never told me illness A.

Thank you for listening. I had to vent.

If you see her the day before then save some money and see her at your next scheduled time. If you feel you need to see her after then call and book.

If you have your medical notes and previous reports–read them over prior to the appointment. Don’t criticize any of your current (and maybe past) medical providers to the IME Dr.

Do you suffer from fatigue? Ever been for a sleep study–takes a long time to get an appointment but If you are tired ask your Doctor for a referral. Let the IME Dr. know you have or are planning to ask your GP for a referral.

Since you have been approved for CPP-D you must have some convincing evidence for prolonged and severe disability. Review that.

We have always approached assessments going in as if the Doctor will be helpful.
We recorded for accurate note taking by using memo app on our iphone. It also helped in feeling less vulnerable.

Truth and sincerity goes along way. If this Doctor has a biased agenda make it difficult for him/her by being cooperative and pleasant.

Prepare yourself and if you have any anxiety go over with your psychologist strategies on how to cope.

My husband went a long time without a correct diagnosis. That adds to your stress…but without a clear diagnosis how do you get properly treated. Right now all you can do is manage the best you can with your illness.

Thank you allyoops. You are a very good person. I really appreciate all your advice.

Yes I do. I am seeing my GP a few days before the IME.

You can’t take a lawyer with you to these types of meetings, nor would you want to. Go into the meeting in good faith with view of being as cooperative as possible as others have suggested.

Thank you David. I spoke to your office yesterday and they said the same.

I understand if this was the United States my lawyer will send a videographer to record the whole evaluation.

Perfect. If they refuse to provide you the documents they are sending and/or the intake forms just ask them to send you by email or letter why they are refusing your request before you see the Doctor.

Still go to the appointment unless any forms require further clarification ie; waivers or indemnity agreements

You just need to go in complete good faith. If your Insurer is refusing your reasonable request you just want a record of them doing so.

Thank you allyoops. I am a nice guy and I am always nice to people so the IME should be okay.

However, I am thinking to refuse the IME and have my insurer stop my LTD because I cannot find good doctors and or psychologists. In addition, I am spending two thousand dollars every month on psychologist visits. After I pay all these bills I am left with a mere $900 a month. I have to see psychologists at my expense or else they will cut me off.

I am sick and tired of living in a cage and fighting with doctors and psychologists to complete forms. These people should not be in the healthcare industry. My insurance is the good guy in all of this. They have waited months and months for my psychologist to complete forms. Every six months they send forms and my psychologist takes four months to complete them. He is consistent with being late. All this is burning me out more and more. I found a good psychologist recently but her rate is so high I will have to start dipping into my savings soon. She diagnosed me with PTSD which makes perfect sense but my other doctors are not buying this and I cannot get a referral to see another doc.

In addition, my psychiatrist recently retired and he referred me to a GP. He refused to refer me to another psychiatrist. This is so stressful. I need a psychiatrist not a GP. I have been telling him over and over to refer me to a psychiatrist but he refused. Leading up to his retirement date I faxed a letter to him and I hand delivered a letter to him asking hm to refer me to a psychiatrist but he did not care. Now that he is gone I am stuck in a huge dark hole.

Having only $900 a month from CPP-D and not having to fight with doctors could be good for me. After all the stress with medical people I still have $900 a month. Are you following what I am saying. Either way I still end up with $900 a month.

If I get off LTD I will continue to attend government funded programs at no direct cost to me. I will still have some support. I will not have to fight with anyone.

I am sorry I have taken up so much time but I wanted to let you guys know what I am going through.

The IME Doctor might offer a good medication plan. Worth a try but you should really sleep on it before making any rash decisions.

If you are thinking of going off LTD then the IME can not hurt to go. In my opinion.

Maybe the psychiatrist you’re paying for are helping you.
I worry that you will be worse off if you don’t see them.
Maybe the GP you were referred to will refer you to a psychiatrist.
I always thought GPs had to refer you to a specialist if you asked.
I don’t think you need a referral if you’re paying for it it yourself.
At least in Ontario there are many private ones.

Good point. The IME may have offer a medication plan but I researched his name and he is not a psychiatrist. :grinning:

I omitted some information in my long post.

I have been going to a clinic for the past four months and I love it there. Many support groups etc. A few weeks ago I saw their in house psychiatrist Dr. W and he was awful. He was arrogant and rude. In fifteen minutes he diagnosed me with two major psychotic illnesses. He failed to prescribe me any medication. After I saw him he called my other doctors and told them his diagnosis. On of my long time doctor Dr. F called me the next day and said he will not be seeing me again. Dr. F cancelled all my appointments and he refused to explain why. Dr. F office told me I have to see Dr. W.

This has been a very difficult time for me. All this stress is making me worse instead of better.

The letter from my insurance clearly state their IME doctor is a psychiatrist but I called the college of physicians and they told me he is not. I am 100% sure he is just a GP.

So is now Dr. W your primary Doctor. If you have the diagnosis for 2 psychotic conditions then you should stay on LTD. If your psych is too expensive then see her less and go to support groups that are free.

Do the IME

No Dr. W is not my psychiatrist. I stopped going to his clinic after he misdiagnosed me. Dr. W says I have Narcissistic personality disorder (NPD) and Antisocial personality disorder . My psychologists say Dr. W is wrong because they know me and they have given me the MMPI 2 test and the DID test.

My young psychologist tells me I will be placed in a box because one doctor says I am antisocial. By the way in my province any doctor, nurse etc. can access my medical file online and they will see one doctor diagnosed me with NPD. I am screwed.

I just contacted my two psychologists and asked them to write letters for me with their diagnosis. I plan to give these letters to my IME doctor. X has a PhD and I have been seeing him for the past four years. He is the one who my insurer sends forms to every six months. I started seeing Y earlier this year and she is more knowledgeable. She is only twenty six but she is super intelligent. We will be optimistic now.
