Is there any way to ask your insurer if you are allowed to travel?

I think my policy says I only have to get permission from the insurance company if I leave for 3 months.
I would make sure to get permission from your doctor that you can travel.

I believe you should just tell them about the trip. This is not something that you need to hide from them. You have to assume they will find out either from social media, or doctors notes, etc. I always advise people to be 100% up front and proactive with insurer on this type of thing.
