STD before Maternity Leave [BC]

I’m currently on benefits paid STD (not EI). My claim has been approved until the end of July but I am due next week. I know I have to apply for EI as of the day the baby is born but I have 2 questions for anyone that’s gone through something similar:

  1. Can I continue to receive STD payments instead of EI? It’s higher $ and I know this will offset EI but I’d rather get more $. Manulife is saying the claim will end if I apply for EI but my case manager is never confident in her answers.

  2. When applying for EI for “last day worked” would this become the day before the day of birth or when I went onto STD leave?
