I was diagnosed with parkinson’s disease in April 2023, but now sunlife denied my long-term disability application, what should I do next?
Can you explain the timeline please because April 2023 was more than 2 years ago. Were you already on long-term disability under any occupation and then they suddenly denied it? They also have to say why.
Or are you applying or did apply for ltd under own occupation and were denied?
I was diagnosed in 2023 and stopped working in March this year and applied ltd in June this year, just got denied
Other forum members may want to know the reason as that would be the basis of any dispute, if any.
It’s important to remember that long-term disability qualification is solely based on whether or not you are medically unable to do your own occupation or any other occupation commeasurate to your income education etc. Having an illness on its own doesn’t qualify a person but an insurer must list of reason for denial
I would appeal the decision and pick up a copy of one of David Brannen’s books to help write the substance of the appeal. You can see them on Amazon under his name. As the above poster mentioned, the focus needs to be on the ways in which your condition limit your ability to work.
