I was LTD from 2022-2024 when the insurance decided I should be able to return to work. I had filed a lawsuit and we reached an agreement in May 2025. In June 2025 I was approved for CPPD and the DTC. I have not hear from my employer at all. How long can they keep me on medical leave?
Now that you are approved for CPP-D your employer can likely can make a very strong case that your employment contract is frustrated, and terminate your position at their earliest discretion. Sometimes a small amount of severance is owed depending on which province your live in. In others no severance is required.
There’s no requirement to end employment. They can keep you on until you die if they want to.
I think public unions are more likely to keep you on medical leave forever.
Private companies are more likely to do what Buckets365 said.
