Frequency of LTD checkups

I’ve been on LTD approximately 3.5 years (Canada Life) and CPPD 1.5 years. Due to my medical condition (car accident), I doubt I’ll ever be able to return to work.

I’ve read so many stories here where people have been ‘left alone’ by the LTD caseworker and I’m wondering why that hasn’t been my situation.

I receive a checkup call every 3 months. I’m on my 5th caseworker and they’ve all been the same.

The phone calls are like interrogations. I stress about it in the weeks leading up to it and then ruminate about it for weeks afterwards. I know that my mental health has suffered because of the manner these calls are made in.

There is one question in particular that always makes me feel like, regardless of what I say, I’ve said something wrong. The question is “What do you DO all day?” I usually answer by providing a brief summary of what I do and it never seems to be enough.

Any advice on how to answer this question?

Also, when will they leave me alone, if ever? I don’t mind a yearly checkup but every 3 months at this point seems to be excessive.

I also didn’t like getting that specific question. I was only asked it once and this is how it went (at least how I remember it):

LTD: So what do you do all day?
Me: Not much.
Very long pause of silence
LTD: Can you elaborate.
Me: If you can ask more specific questions, I’ll be happy to answer.

The power the pause is real. Don’t feel that you need to ramble on. Let them feel uncomfortable with your silence. After that the case manager just asked some yes or no questions, which I said yes or no to without giving any more additional context unless I thought it benefited me.

Also, I’d send them an email that due to the high turnover of case managers you will now only be communicating via email.

Thanks for taking the time to reply. I will definitely try your approach and the pause tactic next time.

When they asked me that I listed everything I usually did from bathe to prepare food to get dressed to laundry to sleep. When they asked me how long I did those activities for I accurately answered 24 hours a day. :person_shrugging:

Most post-COD LTD claims will got to annual check-ins eventually. It is not unusual for there to be more frequent check ins in the few years following the COD, especially for younger people, or those with conditions that can still improve over time.
