I am currently on long-term disability (LTD) from both of my jobs due to cancer treatment. I’m planning to return to work part-time, starting with my morning job, and see how it goes. I know I won’t be able to do my afternoon job yet because I don’t have enough physical strength and continue to experience constant fatigue. I’m wondering if the LTD benefits from my second (afternoon) job will continue while I work only in the morning job.
It is extremely unlikely because the determinant of LTD benefits is largely based on your health status.
It’s definitely worth engaging both your insurers to start a partial disability program where you maintain your LTD benefits and just have to give a portion of income earned back to the insurer. Almost all LTD policies have wording about a partial disability program. Hope thatyl helps.
I almost went back to work part-time at one point and my major LTD insurer was actually very supportive of my starting a partial disability program. I would maintain my full LTD payments and 50% of my work income would go back to the insurer. Unfortunately I wasn’t able to actually start it due to health issues.
