Hotel and food on my taxes

I have a specialist appt Tuesday . Ferry is free bit hotel and food will be expensive.

It was mentioned that I should write off those expenses. Anyone ever tried that

Eligibility is determined by whether the medical care is available in your home base and by how far you have to travel. Taxtips.ca has a pretty good guide, search for eligible medical expenses.

If you’re close to the boundary of the distance, Google it on Google maps and print out driving directions to keep a record of how far it is.

Ok those are all a slam dunk. 6 hour trip to this specialist. We don’t have this type on the island. Thanks for that link!

Hi HereFishie,

Yes, in many cases, travel, accommodation, and meals related to medical appointments can be considered deductible medical expenses, depending on your country’s tax laws. It’s important to keep detailed receipts and records of your expenses, including the purpose of the trip and any related documentation from your specialist.

I would recommend consulting with a tax professional or accountant to ensure that you’re claiming everything correctly and in compliance with local tax regulations. They can also advise if there are any limits or special rules that apply to write-offs for hotel and meals.
