Does becoming married change my LTD and CPPD amount and eligibility?

Hi quick question, I’ve been on LTD for a number of years and am currently receiving private insurance LTD + CPPD but I’ve been single.

Now, I am getting married and have to change “single” to “married” status on my tax returns so CRA/CPP would be informed of this status update. I am wondering if my future wife’s income or my marriage status update will have any impact on my LTD and CPPD eligibility and amount received? This will have major impact on my life.

Thanks!

Hi there. No it won’t change anything. LTD and CPP-D are not affected by your spouse’s income. Only provincial disability is affected by your spouses income.

By the way, congrats on the marriage!

thank you for your answer and well wishes, buddy!

As others have said, marriage status has no effect on CPP disability or Long-term disability. These types of benefits do not depend on family financial status. However, it can affect any provincial disability benefits a person receives.
