Severance package

Hi everyone. After 5 years of disability I recently voluntarily went off of disability and started a role with a new employer. My company where i initially went on disability has offered me a severance package however i think the amount is quite low. My question it that how much room do we usually have to negotiate for get a severance package when someone voluntarily go off of disability. Or is there any room at all. I am figuring out to whether i should hire a lawyer or get a legal advice on this matter. would it be worth it? @David_Brannen would really appreciate your expert advice here

Maybe I’m not understanding…..

If you volunteered to come off disabilty insurance benefits, and started a new job with a new employer then your old employer owes you no severance.

Are they aware you quit?

They don’t owe you any severance.

I’ll answer the question as if you didn’t quit and are in Ontario.

I don’t think the employer is required to give you any severance for terminating you for “frustration of contract”.

I took what they offered me because I think they could have offered nothing.

I am not a lawyer and I suggest you contact Resolute for the free consult.

I’d be very concerned that the company doesn’t know you went off disability and got a new job.
