I dug into whether a lump sum DI payout is possible. I am at the end of my mind dealing with DI. They push and push and now 3 yrs into appeals for CPP. Injurious and life crushing.
May not make economic sense on the books to get a payout, but what isn’t also economic sense for me is the bloody offset. If I fight in other arenas and get any payout, then they rake it in. If I try to start work, they’ll offset that too. Or cut all of the DI. I can’t live with a noose my neck. I’m not asking for more money. I’m trying to recover what I lost which was six figures for 8 years. DI will never make up for that. It is more than likely I’ll end up owing more than I make from them.
Lifetime in DI terms means 65 years and being thoroughly sick of them and they’re bullshit that I wanted to look into not having to deal with all the time.
I was told by DI rep for contract 012500, the
federal gov’t does not “endorse non-litigated settlements. It is their choice as to how they chose to operate.” Therefore, adhering to their wishes, the DI cannot put forward a request for settlement.”
So the employer must request it.
I got stonewalled when putting this forward to the employer. HR would NOT respond - silent. It’s been over a year. I can’t get an answer. I have raised it to the Director general to the Ombuds person. Nothing. Ignoring.
It’s more important to get out from under these offset enslavers than anything else. It’s a prison.
I am retired and will never ever go back on DI. I would refuse to leave a workplace snd MAKE THEM make it safe. Big mistake to leave snd let the bullies stay. The employer stalled so long and blocked everything, grinding it to a halt that they got off Scott free.
Anyone who is retired fed try to get a lump sum payout?
I’ve never known anyone to get a lump sum buyout on an approved disability claim under plan 12500. Its like they told you, non-litigated buyouts are not possible. This is based on policy by the employer the Federal Government for whatever reason.

“Non-litigated settlements are considered an extra contractual claims management tool that provides Disability Insurance Plan members with an alternative to receiving monthly long-term disability (LTD) benefits. It is not employer lead, and the employer has no input into Non-litigated settlements.”
They determine if you meet these criteria: “you are expected to receive LTD payments until the maximum benefit period is reached; have received a positive decision from the CPP/QPP Disability; are medically stable and not suffering from a life-threatening condition, and may be eligible to retire on medical grounds under the PSSA”
It’s not something the insurer or employer will volunteer. A person on DI is a cash cow. The money they are “awarded” is a pot to offset and clawback. You pay the taxes on amount they clawed back after you’ve already paid taxes. It took me over a year to get that information between the two. It was like a tennis game. I just kept persisting and I got the actual information so yes it is possible. Who knows if they ever did it I did get out of the pension center That no one has ever ever came back from Disability dismissal under health Canada rules to be employed in the public service. I was told don’t even attempt it because there are so many barriers to prevent you from doing it. Sounds great hey you’re thrown out like a piece of trash.
