Manulife requestin call

Hi

I recently got my ltd claim approved after appeal. Now i get an email requesting a phone call in January to collect updates regarding your condition, treatment and functional abilities in regards to mental health. I am already dreading it, I have been diagnosed with major depressive disorder and anxiety . I have suffered from depression for many years. I don’t feel capable of being on this call without being a blubbering mess and possibly say something that may be misconstrued. Am I allowed to tell them to talk with my doctor instead? Or ask them to send questions via email?

They do not care been on LTD with manulife since 2009 and they will harass you and hold your cheque over your head as collateral to make sure you follow their demands. Plus if your doctor does not complete paperwork in their timelines you suffer they will stop your cheques and not even notify you of anything.

I just received a letter 2.5 months ago saying that as of a date like 2 yrs ago as of Dec 31,25 I am being cut off for medical dental all of it and I assume most of us on LTD require medication of some kind and I have 1 that is $1500.00 + month and they give me 2.5 months and are going to just dump you high and dry. I feel like it is a threat as they state they only way to get them back is to go back to work immediately. They think I’m bonkers now?

Can anyone point me on the right direction to fight them on it not lime we gets pau raises on LTD or they pay enough to live.

Hi Cassmack, the extended health and dental benefits are usually an employment benefit and not part of your disability insurance. Check your employer’s benefit booklet to see what it says about covering people on leave.

Also check if your province has benefits for disabled people without insurance

No pay raises on LTD, that I am aware of. They only “raise” would be that they allow you to keep the small increase in your CPP-D when it goes up (increased by 2.6% in 2025), without fully deducting that 2.6% difference from your current LTD payment.

You have to take the call and answer their questions. It is extremely stressful but you don’t have a choice if you want to continue to get paid. That said, I had one case worker that was borderline abusive (I can’t even get into the crap she did) and my doctor called her and left a threatening message to never call me again. She had to go through the doctor or communicate in writing. Especially if you haven’t had a conversation with them yet, I don’t think that you have a choice but to take the call.

Every LTD plan is different. My LTD has a cost of living increase set to the inflation rate capped at a maximum 3 percent. It will be listed in your long term disability policy.
