Executor fees and CPP-D

I am receiving CPP-D and I am executor for my late father’s estate. I am entitled to receive an executor fee from the estate, but this is considered taxable income. It isn’t really working income. I’m not employed by anyone, nor am I doing this as a self-employed person. But the fee could put me over the maximum allowable earnings. Does Service Canada consider an executor fee to be working income?

If it’s under $5000 I wouldn’t worry about it. If it’s going to be more than that I’d get in touch with CPP-D and let them know. I believe (not 100% sure) that once you regularly make $1500 a month they will reasses your CPP-D.

Just a follow up. I contacted Service Canada last week and an agent confirmed to me that the taxable income you receive performing duties as an executor of an estate is exempt from the income limit under CPP Disability as it is not considered to be working income, but passive income. It is in the same category as income earned from capital gains on investments or rental income and does not affect your CPP Disability benefits.
If you are unsure, always contact Service Canada to confirm.
