Retired CAF member. Manulife requested I apply for CPPD. Ive been approved, received 2 years of retro payment. As expected manulife wants to be paid back. No problem. Today got a letter from my pension. They have taken away my bridging, was expected…and want to be back paid 2 years. The problem is, i received much less from CPPD. Between what i received and what i need to pay back, im short $14000. In addition, because the lump sum was given to me and is taxable, am i paying taxes on all that or will the insuramce company have to provide me with something? Also…how is possible to be out so much money?? I relaize they sre two seperste entities but is there anything i can do? My pension has dropped the $950 bridging, my LTD is stopped, and what i get from CPPD is hundreds of dollars a month less. Doesnt seem right.
Sorry that this is happening in your situation, wish I was able to help clarify the financial issues. Hoping someone on the forum will be able to assist with your concerns.
Thank you for your service. <3

The problem you have is that when you repaid your bridge benefit this actually reduced your CFSA benefit over this period. Presumably, Manulife has been reducing your disability benefits by the full amount of your CFSA pension. You should have the CFSA advise Manulife of your “actual” CFSA pension and the insurer should reimburse you for the full amount of the bridge benefit over this period. Hope this helps!
