I wanted to say that if I feel I am able to do some kind of work with my previous employer, would that be the same as going through the CPP disability vocational rehabilitation program? Does that mean the two years of automatic reinstatement into CPPD still apply to me even though I was not subject to the CPP disability vocational rehabilitation program?

Yes, you would want to use the CPP Vocational Rehab program. This is used for any type of return to work with old or new employers.
