Question regarding Vacation Pay

I’ve been off work for about 18 months. When I was signed off by my Doctor I had almost 6 months of vacation accumulated that I didn’t use. Does my employer have a legal obligation to pay me out if I am unable to ever return to my job?

My husband just quit his job as he will never be able to work in the foreseeable future. He has vacation pay due–so it will have to be paid out.

It does not affect his Insurance claim but not sure if you requesting the vacation pay would be a deduction to you?

The employee standards acts are different province to province, but it is common that the employer must pay out “earned” vacation pay upon termination or resignation.
