Hello,
The LTD insurer indicated that they are considering an occupational therapy assessment and treatment. What does this mean in terms of the information they would typically be looking to obtain from the OT provider, and how is such an OT assessment usually conducted?
Thanks.

I don’t know much about all the facets of OT, so I can only account for my own experience. I was on a mental health claim and I was still requested to do an OT assessment, which was largely irrelevant and they still ended up using it to help deny my change of definition. It was one morning of physical tests, and a second morning of a cognitive exam on a computer. I had to fight to get a copy of my results, which claimed I was in the normal range for whatever tests they did, while in the same breath saying my issues were outside their scope. In the report they used everything they could to discount my disabilities including noting that I was able to show up on time, was dressed in clean clothes, was polite and spoke intelligently, didn’t complain, could sit in a chair the whole time, etc. Just being there and not actively “appearing disabled” is part of the test (from the experience I had).

Thank you for sharing your experience. Did the OT also propose some sort of treatment plan? And what happened next?
